Systems

Quality and Safety systems operate within the company and are applied to all projects. Biota carries public liability and professional indemnity insurance, along with workers compensation consistent with legislative requirements.

Biota's projects are often completed in remote locations or in an environment of operational mining activities. Safety is therefore our highest priority and we have developed comprehensive safety procedures. Biota's safety system recently passed an external audit by Rio Tinto's safety group.

Equipment

The company maintains an extensive range of safety and technical equipment, including Global Positioning Systems (GPS), satellite phones, emergency beacons (EPIRBs), UHF and VHF radios, first aid equipment and five fully mine-equipped 100 Series Landcruisers. Biota also has a variety of specialist biological and technical instruments incuding infra-red automated digital cameras, tree water use dataloggers, ultrasonic bat call detectors, water chemistry meters, dissecting microscopes and precision measuring instruments.

Training

All Biota staff complete a range of accredited safety training courses, including off-road driving training, St John's Ambulance Senior First Aid and a wide range of mine site safety inductions. We have a commitment to ensuring that all staff maintain current qualifications and obtain any other specialist training that may be required for particular projects.
