The flora of Western Australia is well recognised for its rich diversity and high levels of endemicity. Plant communities are an essential component of biodiversity and underpin primary production in ecological processes, in addition to providing habitat for terrestrial fauna.

Most developments usually involve the clearing of native vegetation and impacts on individual flora species. Baseline surveys and other studies are therefore required to evaluate the significance of the species and associations that may be affected.
