- Biota a finalist for Rio Tinto Terry Palmer Award for Innovation 28.4.2014
- A series of Pilbara Leaf-nosed Bat studies conducted by Biota at Koodaideri was voted as one of the top Rio Tinto innovation projects in 2013. The series of studies ranked in the top six of 148 nominations from within the Rio Tinto Iron Ore business unit and was a finalist in the Terry Palmer Award for Innovation.
- The Terry Palmer Award is presented to the team or individual who contributed the most outstanding example of innovation and improvement in process or work practice.
Biota’s work, conducted jointly with Bat Call WA, documented that over 400 Pilbara Leaf-nosed Bats Rhinonicteris aurantius use the Koodaideri roost, making it one of the largest known in the Pilbara.
