Georgraphical Information Systems (GIS) and Environmental Data Management

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) are computer-based systems that display digital mapping (spatial) and tabular (aspatial) data. GIS tools including MapInfo and Arcview are applied to Biota's surveys and environmental impact assessments through:

• Quantification of impacts by vegetation type
• Identification of restricted communities
• Analysis of individual species distributions
• Analysis of remote sensing imagery

Biota has specialist GIS staff and a range of data management tools in-house. We also have access to a variety of technologies via our professional network to help gather and interpret environmental data.
